Ku-ring-gai SES Unit

The New South Wales State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is the combat agency for storms (including severe weather), floods and tsunami within NSW. Supported by paid staff in Regional and State Headquarters, local Units are all volunteers. Members are trained to, and assist their community by responding to emergency events to protect life and property.

Getting Involved

NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life, working together to achieve our goals. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older (full membership is only available to applicants 18 years or older) and must pass a criminal history check.

Within NSW SES, there are a wide variety of roles.

Some are physically demanding, such as being in our Rescue Teams operating chainsaws and patching roofs, or being a Flood Rescue Technician going into floodwaters to rescue people.

Other jobs are mentally demanding, such as our Operations Team who manage our response to major events by coordinating our crews and other assets.

There are also opportunities for members who can assist with maintenance of our equipment, or assisting with administrative duties.

There's a role for everyone.
