Old Government House - National Trust Property

Old Government House is Australia's oldest surviving public building. It was built by Governors Hunter and Macquarie between 1799 and 1818 and is faithfully restored, furnished and decorated to the Macquarie period (1810-1821). Experience the lives of our early colonial governors and view the nation's most important collection of early Australian colonial furniture.

Getting Involved

Help the NSW National Trust protect our heritage by undertaking a regular volunteer commitment! A huge number of positions are available across the state varying from front of house, food service and clerical roles to guiding, research, promotions and fundraising. Volunteering at the National Trust is a fantastic way to meet new people, develop new skills and contribute to the history of your local community. Application forms are available from the National Trust website.
