Portable Iron Houses - National Trust Property

These three houses are among the few 19th century prefabricated iron buildings remaining in the world. An audiovisual display provides a comprehensive account of their importance in the history of white settlement in Australia, particularly during the gold rush years in Victoria. They are listed as protected properties by the National Trust of Victoria.

Getting Involved

The National Trust is in regular need of committed volunteers to assist with maintaining its activities throughout the state. Volunteers support a small paid staff at Head Office and at our historic properties by generously giving their time, skills and experience. Have you considered extending your experience, learning new skills and enriching your life by becoming involved as a volunteer with the National Trust? Orientation and training is provided and a regular commitment of at least one day a fortnight, over a 12-month period, is generally required. See the National Trust website to find out how you can help protect Victoria's heritage.
