Penitentiary Chapel Historic Site, Hobart

We are open daily to conduct guided tours of undoubtedly Hobart's most significant Colonial Convict, Penal and Legal Heritage Site. Construction began in 1831 to the design of famous Colonial Architect John Lee Archer as the Chapel for the adjacent Prisoners Barracks.

Getting Involved

We seek dedicated and committed volunteers with a passion for history as guides, researchers or even as gift shop assistants.
