Greg Hunt MP Encourages Community Volunteering

By Do Something
18 February 2014

The Hon Greg Hunt is rallying support for community volunteering by launching his personalised Do Something Near You portal to encourage more people to get involved.

"I have partnered with Do Something, which connects willing volunteers to community groups in their area. I encourage local community groups and volunteers to get on board," says Greg.

There are so many local organisations doing terrific things to help others and this is an opportunity for anyone who wants to give back to the community.

"I recently visited Abacus Learning Centre in Hastings, which is seeking assistance with gardening, painting, maintenance, cleaning and repairing toys," says Greg.

Abacus is a not-for-profit organisation that provides intensive early intervention for children with autism. Voluntary assistance helps Abacus keep the cost of services as low as possible, allowing more families to access this vital service.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of these community organisations s and many groups are desperately seeking additional volunteers to allow them to continue their good work.

By giving back and volunteering, we can make our communities stronger and happier places to live.
