2016 National Op Shop Week

2016 National Op Shop Week

DoSomething is pleased to announce that National Op Shop Week 2016 will take place from Sunday August 21 -27 2016.  Our ambassador for this year's Op Shop Week is Costa Georgiadis from ABC TV's Gardening Australia. With the help of TV stylist Alex Van Os, Costa will be trying out a range of different outfits that Alex has picked up at Red Cross Op Shops and will be showing them off to the media.

The launch of National Op Shop week will be held at the Rozelle Red Cross Op Shop on Friday 19 August at 11:00am, and a big event organised by Brisbane City Council and Salvo Stores will kick off Op Shop Week from Brisbane that same evening.

More details to come!

Launch of National Op Shop Week 2015

The launch of National Op Shop Week on Sunday 23 August 2015 was a great success. Launched by Margie Abbott and hosted by Vinnies Parramatta, the crowd was entertained by the school band from St Patrick's Marist College, Dundas.

Margie joined Op Shop Week founder Jon Dee in promoting the great work charity op shops do in our community. Margie and Jon were joined by representatives from the Red Cross, The Smith Family, Salvos and Anglicare.

The students also put on a fashion parade in outfits chosen from Vinnies.

This made the launch a truly united event in support of the vital community work that Australian charity op shops do every day.  Mrs Abbott was dressed in an outfit sourced from Vinnies and enjoyed looking through the many items available at the Parramatta Vinnies store.

News Corp Partnership - Op Shop Week 2014

In 2014, DoSomething entered into a major media partnership with News Corp and their News Local newspapers. This tie-up led to coverage of the Op Shop Week event in all News Local newspapers - this coverage reached 1.1m Australians.

As part of our tie-up, News Corp also held an Op Shop Week event with DoSomething at their national HQ in Sydney. We organised collection bins so that News Corp staff could donate clothing to the Red Cross and Vinnies.

An Op Shop Week event was also organised at News Corp HQ where stylists from Vogue, Sydney Confidential, WISH and Sunday Style dressed mannequins using clothing from charity op shops. Placed in a highly prominent position, this Op Shop Week display was seen by the 3,000 journalists and staff at News Corp HQ.

At DoSomething, we're really grateful for the support that they gave us!
